A Guide to Picking Your Headshot Photography Package

Whether you are a real estate agent in Nashville, Spring Hill, Franklin, or Columbia, Tennessee, or maybe you're in another profession - an actor, a musician, or even another photographer needing a headshot, I can help you.

When shopping for professional headshots, you will notice a wide variety of prices and options for headshot packages.

Who knew there were so many choices, right?

You may be asking how you choose the best headshot options. Well, this is where I come in. As a full-time headshot photographer, I work with professionals from all walks of life. Hence, I've seen how and where images are used in every industry. Trust me; you're in good hands.

This blog will better equip you to make the right decisions for your headshot session.

Before the Headshot Shoot

1. Know the Reason for the Headshot

The first thing we should ask is, "What is the headshot for?"

Some people just know they need a new LinkedIn headshot, or maybe it's been a few years since your last had shot, and you just need a new one for the company website.

That's great if you know what you need and that keeps it simple.

Therefore, assess the reason for thinking of getting a new headshot. Knowing the reason right away saves you time in deciding on which package you should get.

2. Determine the Number of Images You Need for Your Headshots

The next thing to consider is how many images will you need for your headshots.

Will you need multiple images or just a small number of headshots, let's say maybe two or three?

Before choosing a headshot package, ensure the final number of photos you'll be needing for your headshots.

 3. Know Any Specifications for the Headshots

It's essential to consider if you have any specifications for the headshots.

  • Will you need a square crop or a vertical crop?

  • Are there any dimensions that we need to consider when booking your headshot?

For example, are you needing something for the company's website, and does your company have a specific crop standard they would like the headshot to be cropped to?

To ensure we get everything you need out of your headshot photography session, connect with your marketing team to ask what specifications they have for your headshots.

You may need different headshots for different purposes. For example, you may need one for LinkedIn, your business card, and maybe even your Facebook. Moreover, your company may require a specific headshot for the company website but another type of headshot for internal communication purposes.

Worry not, I can produce all the different type of headshots you'll need. Still, it's best to have this information before the headshot session to plan it correctly. This will also ensure a smooth flow of shooting and editing your headshot.

4. Wardrobe

You will also want to consider your wardrobe for your headshot session.

Probably, you may want to mix up your wardrobe to give yourself various options when reviewing your headshot edits.

If you are working on creating a social media presence, you may want to add multiple headshots to your headshot session. We can help you create a variety of expressions for your social media campaigns.

You can actually build up a whole library of stock images of just you with different expressions; you never know what kind of image or expression you might need.

Furthermore, you can later add captions to the headshot photos to match the images.

During Your Headshot Shoot

1. Facial Expressions

During your photoshoot, I can help you capture a wide range of facial expressions. This will give you an inventory of headshots with different facial expressions that you can use for various marketing purposes.

2. Clothing Changes and Background Options

What about clothing changes and background options?

Once you are in the studio, changing the background and lighting options is a fairly easy process. I can also work on changing the backgrounds to help give you more variety in your headshots.

Thus, if you're on the fence, I always recommend a few more images to have options to work with.

Covering everything you need in the studio session will save you time and planning other photoshoots in the future.

A few more images to work with will also be more cost-effective in the long run than trying to schedule another shoot a few weeks later because you might realize it's probably best that you have some options with some different wardrobes.

What about outdoor photos are organic backgrounds?

With a studio session, we can always digitally change out the background that would match your marketing needs for your headshot.

I can clip you out of the background, and we can select an organic or natural background of your choosing.

3. Professional Make-Up and Styling

What about professional styling and makeup artist?

I highly recommend getting a professional makeup application for women.

It makes no difference if you need acting headshots or professional headshots. Either way, you are having your headshots created to market yourself.

You will be putting your headshot directly in front of people who are making split-second decisions. Both actors and non-actors think of all the places you will use these images.

Working with a makeup artist who understands photography will ensure your photo session is successful.

For men, it doesn't mean you are off the hook; a little male grooming can go a long way too. But, if you do, you will be using a stylist and a makeup artist in your headshot session.

4. Extension of Photo Session May Be Needed

You may want to extend your photo session to maximize the opportunity in front of the camera since you know you will be looking your best.

I got a lot of clients calling needing hair headshot photos done yesterday.

If you are in a rush to get your headshots done, please let me know this upfront, and we will do our best to accommodate to through the process.

Some challenges may require you to give up the opportunity to have professional styling or the time to get some clothes and changes in.
